I shared in my last blog about communication in the workplace and how critical it is to business success. About the same time that I wrote this, I was watching and listening to the attached video from Marshal Goldsmith about engagement with employees. Many of the issues and insights he shares I have seen regularly in many of the organisations where I have consulted. Employees are driven by what their supervisor or manager is focused on, and what is in it for them. Generally if personnel can see within their work environment the ability to grow and change, they will typically accept it and participate. Though, as Marshal identifies it is always up to the individual and their inner values and behaviours. The business can encourage participation and share their programs, however engagement is a two way street. Just a thought.
